Last to know. Prince Harry learned of Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis the same way many of us did, according to a new report by the Times of London.
According to the outlet, the Duke of Sussex may have heard the news when her personal announcement aired on television.
“It is understood that Kate’s cancer diagnosis was not shared in advance with Harry and Meghan,” The Times of London reported on March 23, 2024.
“Several sources confirm that there were no such conversations and it is thought Harry found out about Kate’s diagnosis from television, at the same time as the public.”
While it’s possible a private conversation could have taken place, a Kensington Palace spokesperson told the publication that they “do not comment on private conversations,” when asked for comment on the matter.
The Times’ report comes days after Kate’s announcement. The Princess of Wales made the shocking disclosure on March 22, 2024, in a video posted to social media and later widely circulated in the media. “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous,” Kate shared. “However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.”
She continued, “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment. This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.” The Prince and Princess of Wales share three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Following her announcement, Prince Harry—along with his wife Meghan Markle—issued a statement wishing Kate well. “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace,” the couple shared at the time. Later reports also confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had privately reached out to Kate.
