King Charles “got his fingers burned” after his son Prince Harry and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle’s departure from the Royal Family, deciding to step down as working royals, back in 2020.
Royal author, Tom Quinn, told the Mirror the King has “no regret” with the couple deciding to go ahead with their decision and move to America where they reside with their children Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.
While His Majesty battles with cancer and undergoes treatment there has been speculation as to who will step in for the King if needed. Mr Quinn said: “There is no regret at all about Harry and Meghan not taking some of the strain.”
He added: “During discussions about whether the couple might be offered some official role it was pointed out that any minor disagreement could lead to public rows and attacks.”

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla has stepped up to attend multiple royal engagements without the King this week, demonstrating her support and care for duty – and accepting the odd get-well card from well-wishers along the way.
During her time celebrating Northern Ireland’s artisan producers, the 76-year-old was seen taking edible goodies away for her and her husband, who she says is “doing very well”.
The 75-year-old monarch, although not participating in public duties currently, is holding private audiences at Buckingham Palace, as well as the usual desk duties and a weekly audience with the UK’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
