Prince Harry allegedly cut ties with Britain after he changed his primary country of residence to the United States, but a royal expert believes he was only “trolling” his dad, King Charles.
The Duke of Sussex updated his primary home in his records to reflect “United States” as his “New Country/State Usually Resident.” His previous record reportedly showed “United Kingdom.” The change was done on June 29, 2023, when his tenure at Frogmore Cottage ended.
Royal commentator Charlotte Griffiths, editor at large at Mail on Sunday, shared her thoughts about the issue with GB News presenter Ben Leo.
According to her, Prince Harry did it to allegedly “troll” his dad, who asked him to evacuate Frogmore Cottage, his official residence in London, when his tenancy ended in June 2023.

“To me, it feels like he’s trolling his dad a bit because he could have said that he’s been a US resident since 2020 when he quit the UK and moved to the States, but instead, he chose the exact day that his dad kicked him out of Frogmore,” Griffiths said on GB News.
“The reason his dad kicked him out of Frogmore was because he’d slagged off Camilla in ‘Spare.’ And apparently, it was a really difficult decision for Charles because no dad wants to kick their son out of their home. But he went beyond the pale.”
Griffith said the Sussexes spent nearly $3 million to renovate the property just to move out of it anyway. She was convinced that Prince William’s younger brother plotted the change in his residency in response to His Majesty’s decision.

“Harry was incensed by this move. Nothing is by chance with Harry. He’s kind of spiteful, and he can’t let go of the past,” Griffiths continued. “Why is he so hung up on Frogmore? This is the country he was desperate to get away from. This is a house he didn’t particularly want to live in and, in fact, didn’t live in.”
Leo added that Markle and Prince Harry said they wanted to live away from the “hellhole in England” and the trauma they experienced with the royal family. However, the pair did nothing but “look back and complain about the way they were treated.”
“And if this is right, that he chose this date to have a dig at the King, it’s just another act of his really quite vengeful nature,” Leo added.
Griffiths also claimed that Prince Harry was probably furious because he was “made to pay for the costs of renovations,” and he allegedly thought that “he was getting a fantastic freebie.”
The royal expert also noted that there were reports Markle thought Frogmore House was a “much grander property,” and the former actress allegedly felt she was “sort of tricked” upon realizing that it was just a cottage with eight bedrooms.
