Inside Prince William’s stunning Scilly holiday home where he visited with King Charles and Prince Harry

Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children have a number of holiday homes at their disposal, including Tamarisk House on St Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly

Prince William is on a two-day visit to the southwest of England – his first overnight trip since his wife Princess Kate received her cancer diagnosis – and he has the perfect place to retreat at the end of a busy first day.

On Friday (May 10), William will make an official visit to the stunning Isles of Scilly – and also located there is a little-known royal holiday home.

The Prince is believed to have previously spent time at Tamarisk House – both as a child with his parents King Charles and Princess Diana, and his brother Prince Harry, as well as later with wife Kate and their own three children.

It is tucked away on St Mary’s, the largest and most populous of the Isles of Scilly, which covers an area a little more than six square miles and has some 1,800 residents. Tamarisk House is a beautiful mid-1960s property set in a quarter acre of land. It boasts four bedrooms, and is largely hidden from view by tamarisk trees to protect the royals’ privacy.

It has two bedrooms on the ground floor with sea views, along with a family bathroom. And on the first floor, a twin bedroom can be found with an en suite shower room and a master bedroom. Stunning views of St Mary’s can be enjoyed from the living room by a wood burner, or outside on the sun terrace.

Now, in William’s hands, Tamarisk House has been billed as the “new flagship addition”, situated on the historic Garrison, within five minutes walk of the amenities of Hugh Town, St Mary’s Quay and the Harbour.

What’s more, members of the public are able to rent out Tamarisk House for themselves. Owned by the Duchy of Cornwall, and offering wifi, hi-fi, smart TVs and a well-equipped kitchen, prices range from £1,315 to £5,295 for a seven-night stay, depending on when you visit.

The Duchy of Cornwall is a large estate owned by the Prince of Wales, which includes land, farms, houses, and other assets. It generates income that supports the Prince of Wales, his family, and his charitable activities. William inherited the £1 billion Duchy of Cornwall estate and the title of Duke of Cornwall following Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022.

According to the tourism website for The Isles of Scilly, “St. Mary’s is an easy going safe haven of hidden treasures. The coastline features large stretches of deserted white sandy beaches, dramatic rocky coves, stunning seascapes, amazing archaeological sites, beautiful walks and scenery along miles of coastal and country paths and nature trails”.

William’s first day in Cornwall on Thursday saw him visiting the site where the Duchy of Cornwall’s first homeless housing project will be built, in Nansleden, Newquay.

Friday, meanwhile, marked his first official visit to the Isles of Scilly since becoming the Duke of Cornwall in September 2022. William will visit St Mary’s Harbour, which is run by the Duchy, and handles passengers and vessels, and will also spend time with harbour operators before paying a visit to St Mary’s Community Hospital.
