Meghan Markle’s ‘lie’ about Prince Archie that was disproved by King Charles
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex children Archie and Lilibet will now have the right to be a prince or princess and use the HRH title now their grandfather King Charles is on the throne
Meghan Markle’s ‘lie’ about Prince Archie that was disproved when King Charles took the throne
Meghan Markle ‘s claims about the royal family and concerns that her son Archie wouldn’t be made a Prince due to fears over “how dark” his skin would be have been disproved.
The Duchess of Sussex revealed in her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey that there had been conversations with Prince Harry and a “family” member about their unborn son and what colour his skin would be with concerns expressed over “what that would mean or look like”. The worries were said to extend to not offering Prince Harry’s son a royal title, and effectively blocking him from becoming a Prince.
However this has later been debunked, as according to royal protocol Archie would only receive a title when his grandfather Charles took the throne. When the King was coronated in 2023 this then opened up a future as a Prince for Meghan and Harry’s eldest child.

In the bombshell interview with Oprah, Meghan revealed that conversations in the palace over the colour of her future child’s skin also affected their future as she explained the palace then implied there would be no royal lineage. She explained: “That was when they were saying they didn’t want him to be a prince or a princess.”

Under rules brought in by George V in 1917, only the children and grandchildren of a sovereign have the automatic right to be a prince or princess, and use the HRH title. Now Charles is the King, after he succeeded the late Queen Elizabeth II, this gave the right to a Prince title for Archie as well as a possible Princess title for his younger sister Lilibet.
The news comes as Meghan has been focusing heavily on building the Sussex brand for her and Prince Harry over in the US, continuing their work since leaving the royal family in 2020 as working royals. The couple are still in limbo over whether their $20m Netflix deal will be renewed when the contract ends next year, and they are ploughing on with other endeavours including relaunching Meghan’s Archetypes podcast.

The Duchess of Sussex has revealed she is “thrilled” to announce the series has been released on all platforms following her dramatic split from her Spotify agreement. It’s described again as a “podcast where we investigate, dissect, and subvert the labels that try to hold women back,” and all 13 episodes will once again be available now she has relaunched with Lemonada.
It comes a month after she revealed she had signed a new deal with Lemonada following the cancellation of her and Harry’s lucrative $20million with streaming giants Spotify. In a statement last month, Meghan said: “I’m proud to now be able to share that I am joining the brilliant team at Lemonada to continue my love of podcasting.”
