The British Royal Family has always been under intense scrutiny, but recent developments suggest internal tensions are reaching new heights.

The spotlight is now on Prince William, who seems poised to take a harder line with his uncle, Prince Andrew, than his father, King Charles, has.

Prince William, 42, has remained largely silent about his disgraced uncle since the Duke of York, 64, stepped down as a working royal amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in 2020. Stripped of his military titles by the late Queen Elizabeth, Andrew has also reportedly been asked by King Charles to move out of his current residence, the Royal Lodge.

It is now believed that Prince William could be moving his uncle out of the Royal Lodge and into Frogmore Cottage, the former residence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion in Windsor, is set to be handed over to William. In contrast, Frogmore Cottage, after renovations, offers a more modest five-bedroom space.

Why Prince Andrew would be the one left behind
Andrew’s relocation is seen as another blow to his royal standing, particularly after his connection to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Virginia Giuffre, a victim of Epstein, accused Andrew of sexual assault. Although Andrew has consistently denied these allegations, he settled a civil suit with Giuffre for a reported £12 million. Despite knowing the stripping of his royal duties was imminent, Andrew was reportedly surprised by William’s leading role in the decision.

Royal correspondent Richard Kayreported to mail online that William has long harbored a grudge against Andrew, stemming from Andrew’s unwelcoming attitude when William first introduced Kate Middleton to the royal family. Kay suggested that William feels his father has been too lenient with Andrew and is pushing for the eviction from Royal Lodge to make way for his own family, the Waleses.

Omid Scobie’s book “Endgame” also claimed that William played a significant role in Andrew’s downfall. According to Scobie, William “set the wheels in motion” in 2022, as the prospect of an out-of-court settlement involving family money was damaging the monarchy’s reputation. This internal reshuffling within the Royal Family illustrates a professional team or organization where, if someone is not performing or is causing issues, they must be removed for the greater good, regardless of their previous importance or the affection held for them.
