Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s heartfelt request to Tyler Perry after moving from his LA mansion

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle found themselves in a tight spot, stranded in Canada amidst an escalating feud with the Royal family, it was none other than Hollywood’s Tyler Perry who stepped in to save the day.

Although he had never met Meghan personally, he reached out before her nuptials to Prince Harry, aware of the challenges she might face and extending his support whenever she might need it.

Meghan didn’t immediately accept his offer, but when the couple found themselves in a bind in Canada, she decided to contact him.

Recounting the experience on their Netflix documentary ‘Harry and Meghan’, she revealed: “That’s where Tyler came into the picture. I’d never met him before. He sent me a letter before the wedding just saying he was praying for me. And that if I ever need anything, he would be there. Months and months and months went by. And then one day when we were in Canada, I had called him.

“Finally, after years at that point, first time we ever spoke, and I was just a wreck. I was just crying and crying. Sometimes it’s easier to just open up to someone who knows nothing at all. And that was that moment with me and Tyler.”

In an extraordinary act of kindness, Tyler offered the Sussexes and their son Archie a massive mansion in LA to use as a sanctuary while they figured out their future plans, reports the Mirror. The family managed to stay put for most of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic which forced them, like many others, into a period of lockdown. Their lavish mansion proved a stark contrast from their humbler Kensington Palace dwelling in the UK.

Constructed in 2012, the sprawling 24,500 square-foot property is synonymous with luxury, boasting marble archways, grand chandeliers and several terraces offering awe-inspiring views. As the year drew to a close, after much searching, the couple finally found their dream home and it was time for another move.

Upon settling into their new luxurious residence and embarking on creating fresh memories, they received a housewarming gift from Tyler – accompanied by a heartfelt request. In her exchange with The Cut, Meghan disclosed that their gift was an impressive grand piano, now a centrepiece in their lounge, and that Tyler asked them to “write the soundtrack to their lives.”

The couple chose to offer Tyler the position of godfather to their daughter Princess Lilibet as a sign of gratitude for his help.

Revisiting the phone call during which they extended the offer on the Netflix show, Tyler revealed that he could sense the grave tone of the conversation, observing that the couple was being “pretty serious”. He recalls: “I go, ‘Whoa.’ I had to take a minute to take that in. And I thought, ‘I’d be honoured. I’d be absolutely honoured.'” While the call concluded without any issues, upon giving it more thought, he developed some anxieties about the new role, leading him to reach out to the couple for further discussions.

He stated: “I called them back. I go ‘Uh, hold on a second. Does this mean we got to go over there and do all of that in the church with them and figure all that out? ‘Cause I don’t want to do that. Maybe we can do a little private ceremony here and let that be that, and if you have to do it there, then it’s okay.”

Traditionally, economic uncertainty and less travel means less demand for cars. But surprisingly, many vehicles from the last few model years are selling at a premium compared to their original prices. Various factors have pushed used car prices into stratospheric heights, including:

A microchip shortage: COVID-related factory closures reduced the number of microchips available to manufacturers. According to Kelley Blue Book, the average car uses more than 100 such chips.

Supply chain issues: Besides parts shortages, there are fewer delivery drivers. That means it’s harder to ship completed vehicles to dealerships.

Low new vehicle supplies: When the supply of a new model is essentially zero, prices for used models naturally rise.

Low older used car supplies: The Great Recession caused manufacturers to cut back on production between 2009 and 2011. That means that many vehicles that would be affordable and well-maintained aren’t on the market. That’s why more consumers are looking to new or late-model vehicles.

Cash for clunkers succeeded: To jump-start the automotive industry, the government-sponsored Cash for Clunkers program offered owners financial incentive to trade in older vehicles. It worked well enough to eat up a large chunk of the older car supply.

Dealers are paying more for trade-ins: Eager to add stock, dealerships began to pay more for used vehicles. But that meant sales prices also increased. According to Edmunds, the average trade-in value for used vehicles rose to $21,224 in June, an increase of more than 75 percent compared to June 2020.

The end result, according to Consumer Reports? Current used car prices are 42 percent higher than in the pre-pandemic first quarter of 2020.
