Prince Harry torn between supporting Kate Middleton and wife as Meghan Markle dreads UK visit
Meghan Markle is said to be worried about not being welcome in the UK on an ‘anxiety-fuelled visit’ while also fearing for her children’s safety – but Harry is torn between family obligations and personal fears
Prince Harry is torn between his desire to support his sister-in-law Kate Middleton after her cancer diagnosis and supporting his wife, Meghan Markle, who dreads a return to the UK – for two reasons.
That’s according to royal insiders, who have claimed that Meghan, 42, fears bringing their children to Britain over security fears – but also her own anxiety about not being welcomed.
Harry, 39, was due to visit the UK for the first time in months to to attend the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service at St Paul’s Cathedral on May 8.
But both he and his wife reportedly share fears over security and the safety of their children Archie and Lilibet in the UK, unless the Duke can overturn a Home Office ruling stating he is not immediately entitled to police protection in the UK.
But as well as this, a royal insider has told New Magazine that, beneath the surface of these security concerns, it’s alleged that Meghan is worried about being “thrown back into an anxiety-fuelled visit to England, where she feels like she’s not wanted.”

Harry and Kate were once close
But now sources close to the couple tell OK! that Harry is torn between his desire to support his sister-in-law after her diagnosis, and supporting his wife.

“Harry and Meghan have lent their support to both the King and Kate during recent weeks,” the source said. “Both of them were very upset about the news surrounding them. Harry is keen to go and visit both the King and Kate when he comes to the UK, but he knows it will be a difficult task to get Meghan to join him. She’s been through a lot, but so now are his father and sister-in-law. He wants to be there for his family but has to find the right balance between supporting them and supporting his wife at the same time.”
However, the source has revealed that beneath the surface of security concerns lies a more complex layer of emotions. Meghan doesn’t want to “be thrown back into an anxiety-fueled visit to England where she feels like she’s not wanted”.

Moreover, tensions between Harry and Meghan regarding their return to the UK have been heightened by recent health developments within the Royal family. With news of King Charles’ battle with cancer and Kate Middleton’s announcement that she is also battling the disease, Harry finds himself grappling with conflicting emotions.
The source said Harry has personally reached out to Kate following her cancer diagnosis and is “deeply concerned” for her wellbeing.
“Reaching out to Kate has come from his side, but he’s extended well wishes on behalf of both him and his wife,” they said.
“Harry would love for Archie and Lilibet to have a better relationship with their cousins and even the children of some of his friends. He [Harry] feels like they have been away from the UK for far too long and wants to start building a life here. Not full-time, but a second home which they can visit regularly.”

As Harry and Meghan stand at yet another crossroads, torn between family obligations and personal fears, the road ahead remains uncertain.
“What they feel needs to happen now is their safety and security should be secured so that their family can return to the UK where it belongs,” the source said. “All the while the government downgrades their security and the royal family pushes them to the side-lines, it will only leave uncertainty and anxiety for the entire family which is what they are trying to avoid.”
The source disclosed to OK! that Harry is reluctant to alter their plans as he feels a stronger connection to the UK following the news of his father and Kate Middleton, also 42, facing cancer challenges, desiring the support of his spouse. “It’s now got to the point where Meghan doesn’t want to come to the UK with the children. She just doesn’t feel safe,” the insider explained.
The dilemma they face is whether to attend as a family with heightened security or for Harry to make the journey solo.
Harry, who is 39, has reportedly implored Meghan to think again, expressing to her: “I don’t want to do this alone.”

“Harry doesn’t want to keep making solo trips to the UK,” added the source. “He would prefer it if the entire family made regular visits to see his family and build bridges, but there is so much going on behind the scenes that it just isn’t possible at the moment.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were set to jet into the UK for the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service on May 8, with their children – Prince Archie, who will be turning five just days before the service at St Paul’s Cathedral, and two year old Princess Lilibet. However, after the exact time and date of the event was leaked, it’s now uncertain who will attend.
“Both Harry and Meghan were planning to come to the UK, but when the exact time and date of their appearance were made public, she started to rethink that idea,” the source said.
“It was always known that the Invictus Games 10th Anniversary Service would take place in May, but the Sussexes were trying to keep the exact date from the public due to fears over their security. When that date was inadvertently added to the official St Paul’s website it changed the whole dynamics of the planned visit.”
The source also exclusively shared that the Sussexes’ initial plans involved flying the whole family to the UK on a private jet on May 7 and staying at a secret location for a week before heading back to California.
“Harry and Meghan are planning a 5th birthday party for Archie at their Montecito home on May 6 and were then going to fly over to the UK on a private jet the following day,” the source said. “They were going to attend the Anniversary Service, followed by a few more days in the UK so that the children could meet with members of Harry’s family.”
