Prince Harry warned ‘line in the sand’ has been drawn as King Charles ‘not open to idea’
Prince Harry is set to return to the UK next month for a special ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games – and hopes of a reconciliation with his father King Charles have been revealed

Prince Harry might be in line for a reconciliation with his father King Charles but has been warned a “line in the sand” has been drawn over one major thing.

It’s been suggested that hopes for a warmer relationship with his father are brewing as Harry prepares for a return trip to the UK – but any dream of returning to any form of ‘working royal’ life is likely not something Charles is open to, a royal expert has claimed.

Harry, the estranged Duke of Sussex, is set to visit the UK next month for a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. The commemorative event will take place at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on May 8 and is likely to see the 39 year old duke delivering a speech. As tensions persist within the Royal Family, rumours of a possible reconciliation have begun to surface ahead of Harry’s visit in May.

Royal pundit Richard Palmer asserts that King Charles and his youngest son have endeavours to mend their relationship. However, he cautions that a line in the sand has been drawn about a return to the working activities of ‘The Firm’.

Speaking to The Sun, Mr Palmer said: “But I don’t – you may disagree – I don’t think he’s open to the idea that Harry could be a part-time working royal. I think they draw a line in the sand at Sandringham all those years ago now where he said, ‘you can’t be a part-time working royal, you are either in or out’.”

Mr Palmer also fears Harry has less chance of a reconciliation with his brother, claiming he has a “big job” to reconcile and mend bridges with Prince William – a work in progress that may require a lengthier endeavour.

“I do think Harry and his father are trying to reconcile. I think with William, it’s going to be a much longer process, but eventually, maybe, lots of families have disputes and, over time, they can heal their divisions,” Mr Palmer added. “There’s a big job to be done with William. The King, I think, is open to reconciliation.”

The King had a reunion with Harry in the UK in February, just a day after the 75 year old’s cancer diagnosis was made public. Despite travelling from the US to the UK, Harry is reported to have only spent half an hour with his father at Clarence House on February 6.

Following the news of Harry and the King’s meeting, a Royal expert claimed the brief reunion was “more than enough”. Speaking on the Royal Beat podcast, Alan Jones, Press Association Royal correspondent, stated: “I think [Harry] just sitting there with his father was probably enough. He could have done five hours or could have done 45 minutes; it is just the fact he is with him. You could say a lot and rekindle that bond just by being together.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior working royals at the start of 2020, moving to the US shortly afterwards. The couple now live in California with their two children, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two.
