Prince Harry’s chilling thought as he prepared to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton
It was nearly 13 years ago that the Prince and Princess of Wales tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Westminster Abbey in 2011 – and in his controversial memoir Spare, Prince Harry recalled how the nuptials made him have a chilling thought
Their bitter feud now may seem them live apart on different sides of the Atlantic – but that didn’t always seem to be the case for Prince William and Prince Harry.
The brother seemed to be a constant at each other’s sides, getting each other through the heartbreak of their mother Princess Diana’s funeral before sharing happier times together too. One of those was nearly 13 years ago to the day, when William married his wife Kate, who is now the Princess of Wales.
Harry supported his older brother on his big day back in April 2011, travelling to the venue Westminster Abbey and standing with him at the altar as Kate glided down the aisle in her showstopping Alexander McQueen dress.

But according to his controversial memoir Spare, Harry had a chilling thought as he arrived to watch his brother marry his future sister-in-law. In the book, he recounts the car journey with William from Clarence House to the venue on the big day. Of course, not only was Westminster Abbey the wedding venue, but it was also where Diana’s funeral had been held 14 years earlier in September 1997. And Harry recalled his thoughts as the car pulled up at the historic building.
He wrote: “I peered out of the window: Westminster Abbey. As always, my stomach lurched. I thought: Nothing like getting married in the same place where you did your mum’s funeral. I shot a glance at Willy. Was he thinking the same thing?”
Now, things are much different for the brothers. William and Kate now have three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and are senior members of the monarchy. Harry lives in California with wife Meghan Markle with their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet after they sensationally quit as working royals.

Their relationship is said to be almost non-existent after Harry made several claims about his brother, including that he physically attacked him, in his memoir. But according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, the brothers have never been close – and any reunion between them may be “many years” off.
Speaking previously on True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat, she said: “They painted this lovely picture that they were great friends, but they weren’t. There was always huge rivalry between them. They were never really great friends and I can’t see [them coming back together] until maybe many, many years in the future. If disaster struck one or other of them, that would bring them together. But I cannot see it happening [otherwise].”
