Prince William attended the private funeral service of his cousin Lady Gabriella Kingston’s husband Thomas Kingston on Tuesday.
The royal family came together to honor Kingston, who died on Feb. 25 at age 45.
Over 100 friends and family gathered for the private service at the Chapel Royal in St. James’ Palace in London.
King Charles was not present as he continues to take on a lower profile while he battles cancer. Queen Camilla was also not in attendance as she had prior commitments to host a reception at Buckingham Palace.
The one-hour service was followed by a cremation.
Lady Gabriella, who married Kingston in 2019 was joined by her parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and Kingston’s family.
“The King and The Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family,” an official statement read.
“In particular, Their Majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family.”
The Kingston family also released a statement mourning the loss of “an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.”
Before his marriage, Kingston dated Kate Middleton’s younger sister, Pippa, 40, who is now married to James Matthews.
Although the two ended their romance in 2011, they remained close friends.
William’s appearance at the funeral service comes amid a tsunami of bad press surrounding a photo released by the Prince and Princess of Wales that was later revealed to be heavily edited.
The picture came more than two months after Middleton underwent abdominal surgery and dropped out of sight. Various photo agencies later issued a “kill notice” for the “manipulated” image.
Middleton hastily offered an apology for any “confusion” caused by her amateur “experiment with editing.”
