A person who knows the current monarch intimately tells *In Touch* exclusively that the business of planning his funeral has already begun.

It appears to be an unpleasant task, but plans are always updated on an ongoing basis as a matter of routine, Buckingham Palace informed *In Touch*.

King Charles’s health has been deteriorating over the past few months. Buckingham Royal residents declared in February that he had been diagnosed with a serious disease only a week after his hospitalization for prostate surgery earlier that month. Despite the fact that the father of two has resumed royal duties, the insider claims that things have been challenging. According to the source, he is making appearances in public, but they are for shorter periods of time. He is frequently taken in and out by helicopter and requires adequate rest after an engagement. He was given only two years to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, as *In Touch* previously reported.

The insider provides the following explanation: the palace is giving the impression that Charles is on the mend, but he is still very sick. In any case, he’s the king, and palace officials are sufficiently prepared to realize that death is a possibility. Operation Menai Bridge is the code name for the king’s funeral plans. It is named after a suspension bridge in Wales, a nod to King Charles III’s longtime position as Prince of Wales. The moment-by-moment arrangements will start to unfold the moment the 75-year-old passes away. The British prime minister will be the first to be informed, followed by the Keeper of the Seal, who will then put the plan into action.

The monarch’s funeral preparations begin almost as soon as he takes the throne, as viewers of *The Crown* have seen. Insiders tell *In Touch* that the monumental task of planning Queen Elizabeth II’s 2022 death, which involved 10 days of events, 100 heads of state, and thousands of military personnel, has become more pressing now that Charles is battling cancer. The royals will be prepared for a royal ceremony when the time comes. The funeral of Charles will undoubtedly reflect his individual preferences. For his May 2023 coronation, for instance, the music lover commissioned brand new orchestral music. He also made use of British wildflowers, as he was an avid gardener and conservationist.

The insider continues, officials will ensure that a funeral for the king meets his wishes and expectations while adhering to proper protocol. Charles can essentially find peace in that. Since taking the throne in May 2023 following the death of his mother in September 2022, Charles has been in charge. Charles has been the apparent heir since 1952, but it has taken him over 70 years to assume the throne. At 73, he was the oldest person in British history to ascend the throne.

Charles is thinking about more than just having a state funeral. A defender of modernizing and slimming down the government, he is looking at a future where increasingly fewer royals have access to The Gallery at Buckingham Palace during events like Trooping the Colour. More importantly, he is eager for minor royals to be removed from the payroll at the palace. The insider of Charles’s brother and estranged son and daughter-in-law says there are fewer working royals and no plans to replace them. With Prince Andrew’s sex scandal and Harry and Meghan’s exit, the main successor to the throne, Prince William, is enthusiastic about the changes. According to an insider, William has taken on a bigger role, and Charles has drawn him in on much of the decision-making as the king’s health declines.
