The Internet Dusts Off Prince William and Rose Hanbury Affair Rumors Amid Kate Middleton Conspiracy Theories
Stephen Colbert literally devoted his monologue to William’s affair rumors. 😬

As you might have noticed, a certain Marchioness with a hard-to-pronounce name has once again found herself in the news!
Naturally, we’re talking about Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, whose name gets dusted off every now and then when the internet remembers unsubstantiated rumors (RUMORS!) that she and Prince William allegedly (ALLEGEDLY!) had an affair.
And now, Stephen Colbert is out here chatting about it. “For those of you who are royal watchers, I’m afraid I’ve got some troubling news about England’s royal family,” the comedian began during The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night.
The host then went on to say, “the Kingdom has been all a flutter about the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate’s absence may be related to her husband, and the future King of England, William, having an affair.”

“I think we all know who the alleged other woman is, say it with me: the Marchioness of Cholmondeley,” he continued. “What a beautiful name that I’m being told right now I pronounced incorrectly.”

Stephen then noted that there have been rumors (RUMORS!) of an affair between William and the Marchioness going on for several years before citing Cosmopolitan’s deep dive on said rumors.
A quick TL;DR, though? It all started back in 2019 when tabloids zeroed in on an alleged “falling out” between Kate, William, and Rose. Then, In Touch went ahead and reported that Wills and Rose may have had an affair, and that when Kate allegedly confronted her husband, he “laughed it off saying there was nothing to it.”
The royals have never given the rumor time of day, and for what it’s worth, the Daily Mail’s royal reporter Richard Kay claimed that, “Both sides have considered legal action, but because none of the reports have been able to offer any evidence about what the so-called dispute is about, they have chosen to ignore it…These hurtful rumors of a fallout are simply false.”
Obviously, all the Rose + William speculation has once again been dusted off in the wake of our collective “Where Is Kate Middleton?” discourse, as unsubstantiated rumors fly around that she and Wills are heading towards a split. That! Said!!!! There is literally no evidence to suggest this, so moving on!
