In a poignant memorial service paying tribute to Australian and New Zealand soldiers the Palace allowed the rare royal duo – Prince Harry and Princess Kate to take centre stage in 2019.

In a rare joint appearance four years ago, Prince Harry and his sister-in-law, Princess Kate, attended a poignant memorial service in Westminster Abbey which paid tribute to Australian and New Zealand soldiers.

To commemorate Anzac Day on April 25, 2019, the pair represented the Royal Family at the service. At the time, the Duchess of Sussex was on maternity leave and about to give birth to her son, Prince Archie, whereas Prince William was on a solo tour of New Zealand.

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in New Zealand and Australia and commemorates the members of the armed forces who fought on the Turkish shores of the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915 during World War 1. Every year, tributes take place for those who battled and died for their nation. The allied deaths tragically totalled over 560,000.

Prince Harry and Princess Kate were all smiles confidently heading into Westminster Abbey together for the poignant memorial service paying tribute to Australian and New Zealand soldiers in 2019. Princess Kate wore a fit and flare blue Catherine Walker coat which cut off just above the knee, with three large buttons down the front. She marked her respects by pinning a red poppy onto the lapel of her coat. In her hand, she held onto an Emmy London dark green Natasha Greenery & Gold clutch bag and matching Emmy London Olivia Greenery shoes. Prince Harry wore a dark navy suit and also marked his respect by wearing a poppy.

Mum of three, Princess Kate, opted for a pair of sold-out Kiki McDonough Blue Topaz and Diamond Drop Earrings, £3500, and a Kiki McDonough Blue Topaz and Diamond flower necklace, £1500. She enhanced her natural beauty with a smokey eye and brown lipstick. Keeping makeup to a minimum for the memorial service, Kate just wore a slick of blusher and her hair was pulled back into a low bun underneath her hat.

The Duchess attended the commemorations to honour the sacrifices of Australian and New Zealand forces alone as her husband William was on a two-day visit to New Zealand where he took part in an Anzac Day wreath laying in Auckland. Prince Harry attended without Meghan Markle and this was because the due date was approaching with her giving birth to her son.

On his red-and-navy striped tie, Prince Harry wore the Star of the Grand Cross Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order – which he was given by the late Queen in 2015 for services to the Sovereign. While Harry and Kate’s joint appearance four years ago seemed nothing but friendly, Prince Harry detailed his wife’s complicated relationship with Kate in his bombshell biography Spare, which hit shelves earlier last year.
